The fancy car market in India is about to reach a big peak, and Hyundai Motor Company wants to join in by introducing its fancy brand called Genesis. They’re planning to do this probably by the end of 2025. They’ve even made a special team to figure out how to do it. The main thing they’ll sell under Genesis in India will likely be SUVs. This matches what we said before about Hyundai wanting to bring Genesis to India.

Genesis expected to start India
Right now, the company is figuring out how to sell its cars, especially the GV70, GV80, and GV90 SUVs. They’re still deciding if they should launch the GV90 everywhere. Sources say the company has made up its mind to start selling luxury cars and is now working on making it happen. In the beginning, they might bring these SUVs from other countries, but later on, they’ll put them together in their factory near Chennai. We reached out to Hyundai Motor India for more info, but they haven’t gotten back to us yet.
Genesis SUV line-up: a quick overview
The Genesis GV70 is like a close competitor to the Mercedes GLC and the Audi Q5. It’s been around since 2020 and just got some updates. You can choose from different kinds of engines, like regular petrol ones and ones that use a mix of petrol and electricity.
Another model that might come to India is the GV80, which is one of Genesis’ popular SUVs. It also came out in 2020 and got some updates recently. Hyundai also made a sportier version of the GV80 called the GV80 Coupe, which has a sloping roofline to look more athletic. The GV80 competes directly with big names like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5, among others.
There’s also the Genesis GV60 e-SUV, which is for electric car fans. It goes against cars like the BMW iX1 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge in other countries. And keep an eye out for the GV90 SUV, which hasn’t been fully shown yet but might come to India later. It’s a big SUV that could rival the Mercedes-Benz GLS and maybe even the GLS Maybach someday.
Genesis sold one million units since launch
Hyundai’s Genesis cars have sold more than 1 million vehicles since they started selling them in November 2015. Each year, they’ve been selling around 200,000 to 250,000 cars. Genesis is doing really well in important places like the US. Their electric cars are selling more than ever. Genesis is available in many countries, and soon it will come to India too.
Genesis is part of Hyundai Motor Group, and they want to stop making cars that create pollution by 2030. From 2025, they plan to only make electric cars. They hope this will help make the environment cleaner by 2035.
Indian luxury car market growing fast
Luxury cars are becoming more popular in India, reaching higher levels of sales than ever before. Even though more people are buying luxury cars, they still make up a small part of all the cars sold, only about 1.5-2 percent. But in 2024, it’s expected that over 50,000 luxury cars will be sold for the first time. While experts predict the overall car market will grow by less than 5 percent, luxury car companies think they’ll do much better, possibly doubling their sales in 2024.
