Porsche Macan EV less expensive versions will be introduced in India soon.

Porsche Macan EV

Sure thing! Also, you can still snag the first-generation petrol model for the foreseeable future!

The new Porsche Macan EV, the electric version of the brand’s smaller SUV, is gearing up for its big debut worldwide. It’s getting ready to hit the market in various countries, including India where bookings are already underway. Right now, the only model available for booking is the top-of-the-line Macan Turbo, packing a powerful 639hp engine and priced at Rs 1.65 crore (ex-showroom). But don’t worry if that’s a bit out of your budget, there’s good news on the horizon! More affordable versions with lower power are expected to join the lineup in India later this year.

Highlights

  1. Porsche plans to start delivering their electric Macan SUV in India by the end of 2024!
  2. More electric vehicle options coming your way this year!
  3. You can still get your hands on the Petrol Macan, as well as the S and GTS models. They’re all still available for purchase.

Additional Macan electric vehicle models are currently in development.

The latest Macan EV is a whole new ball game compared to its predecessor, especially in terms of technology and performance. It’s not just an entry-level Porsche anymore, whether you’re in India or anywhere else. But fear not, Porsche fans, because there are rumors of more budget-friendly versions joining the lineup soon, possibly even this year. Porsche hasn’t spilled the beans on these new Macan EV editions just yet, but if we take a look at how they’ve diversified their other models like the Taycan, we can make some educated guesses about what’s in store.

In the lineup for Macan electric vehicles, there’s talk of a model that slots between the Macan 4 (which isn’t headed to India) and the Turbo. It’s possibly called the Macan 4S and might pack around 500hp, making it a solid mid-range option. Then there’s buzz about an even lower-tier Macan, possibly with just one motor and rear-wheel drive, borrowing the less powerful rear motor from the Macan 4. Nothing’s set in stone, but Porsche did confirm that all Macan EV versions will share a 100kWh battery. So, even the more affordable variants won’t be skimping on battery size.

Some places will still offer the Macan with a petrol engine.
Porsche is making some changes to the availability of the first-generation ICE Macan in certain regions, particularly in parts of Europe where upcoming regulations are impacting its future. However, not all markets will see this discontinuation. In places like India, where there’s still a strong demand for petrol cars and no immediate regulations that the Macan doesn’t meet, the decade-old model will continue to be available for purchase. Introduced globally back in 2014, the Gen 1 Macan has undergone a couple of facelifts, with the latest one in 2022. In India, it’s offered in three variants: the base 2.0-litre four-cylinder Macan, priced at Rs 88 lakh, and two 2.9-litre six-cylinder models, the Macan S and GTS, priced at Rs 1.44 crore and Rs 1.54 crore respectively.

While there’s no official timeline for its discontinuation, initial reports hinted it might remain on sale until the end of 2025. However, sources now indicate that no final decision has been made, leaving the end-of-sale date for this model uncertain for now. Stay connected for latest updates! We’ll be diving into the review of the new Macan EV, and it’s set to go live on April 23, 2024.
